The Internship

From June 29th 2021 - September 10th 2021, I interned as a Design & Research Intern on Twitter's Content Design Team. While I got the opportunity to be involved in multiple avenues of content design, my main project focused on building the content strategy for the revamp of Twitter's social media dashboard known as TweetDeck

the team

I had the opportunity of working with multiple people in different avenues of design:

  • Me - the content designer

  • My project advisors (my manager and mentor)  - Senior Content Designer

  • UX Designers

  • UX Researchers

  • Product Managers

  TweetDeck's problem

TweetDeck screen

The previous version of TweetDeck limited its user base by having a greater focus on its visual experience relative to its content (which caused confusion for users unfamiliar with social media dashboards). TweetDeck Preview (the new version) required an updated content strategy for old features, new features and the onboarding process.

What i did

As the only content designer directly involved in the project, I built its content strategy in the following ways:

  • Wrote and corrected existing content on TweetDeck onboarding section, instructions and terminology.

  • Eased understanding of TweetDeck through onboarding, feature description and titles.

  • Ensured that buttons, instruction tooltips and new feature descriptions simply and clearly explained their purpose.

  • Established consistency of voice and tone across TweetDeck.

  • Reduced user experience differences in content between TweetDeck and Twitter to maintain brand identity.

  • Collaborated extensively with designers to make sure the visual elements were more user friendly.

Conclusion

The experience and learnings I gained from this internship were truly invaluable to my professional development. I can't wait to implement my newly gained insights into my future projects!

design

While my primary project focused on TweetDeck, I also got the chance to be involved in numerous other projects such as:

  • screenwriting for internal advertisements

  • develop personas and storyboard for product concepts

  •  provide feedback on the content and UX Writing for other teams at Twitter

  • collaborate and critique the work of my colleagues, the other content designers, and explore what their projects were like.

  • Ask high level executives questions about their work and their experience.
